Rooted in community. Built on dignity.
Where Tamani Kamili began.
The Tamani Kamili Foundation begun as a CBO community based organization in Mukuru Kwa Njega slums, taking care of OVC in the community. This dream has grown to the point where we felt the need (addressed by the high percentage of needs on the ground) to advance and register as an NGO.
The Tamani Kamili Foundation is a Kenyan non-governmental organisation rooted in Kajiado. Our name — Swahili for complete peace — is our vision: a fullness of life for every person. Not just survival, but genuine flourishing.
We were founded on the conviction that lasting change cannot be imposed from outside. It must grow from within communities — nurtured by trust, shaped by listening, and sustained by dignity.
"We don't arrive with ready-made answers. We sit with communities, listen deeply, and co-create programs that work — because lasting change can only grow from within."
We don't measure success in programs delivered. We measure it in lives made whole. Our approach begins with dignity, moves through partnership, and ends only when communities stand entirely on their own.
What guides everything we do.
These are not words on a wall. They are the principles that shape every decision, every program, and every relationship we build.
We listen before we act. Every program is shaped by the people it serves — not by assumptions from the outside.
We walk alongside — never above — the communities we serve. Every person deserves to be treated with full respect and humanity.
Success means communities no longer need us. We build internal capacity so transformation becomes self-sustaining.
We are transparent with our partners, donors, and communities. Every shilling is accounted for and every outcome is measured honestly.
We lead with empathy. Behind every statistic is a person with a story — and we never lose sight of that.
We give communities the tools, skills, and confidence to shape their own futures — on their own terms.
"We don't measure success in programs delivered. We measure it in lives that are whole again."
In Kajiado, communities carry extraordinary resilience and talent. What they often lack is access — to learning, healthcare, housing, and opportunity. We exist to close that gap by walking alongside them.
We listen before we act. Every program is shaped by the people it serves.
We walk alongside — never above — the communities we serve.
Success means communities no longer need us. That is always our goal.
There is a place for you in this work.
